Gina G biography

Gina G (her real name is Gina Mary Anne Gardiner) was born in 3 August 1970, in Brisbane (Australia). She moved from her native Queensland to Melbourne in 1987, where she began DJ-ing in the city's hottest clubs before joining the influential dance group, Bass Culture. They hit the top 40 and launched a massive dance hit with their first single Love The Life, released in 1992, which was written and sung by Gina.

In 1994 she departed and headed off to the UK, where she met Simon Tauber and she released her first solo single, Ooh...Aah...Just A Little Bit, which was backed by one of the dance world's biggest names, Steve Rodway (Motiv8). The success of this song was so huge that it won comfortably in the Great British Song Contest, peaked # 1 in Israel and # 1 in UK, and represented Britain in the 1996 Eurovision song contest. Now, she has to share time between live appearances, watch her idol Rita Hayworth and refuse invitations to nude photo sessions.

The first single was followed by a rerelease of Love The Life, originally released by Bass Culture in 92 in Australia, now remixed by a couple of Australian DJs, which had Gina as vocalist. It was # 8 in Israel and entered top 10 in UK. The follow-up wasI Belong To You which did not have Motiv8 in the credits, but was as catchy as the previous singles, more lasting and breakbeaty. The following singles was called Fresh, the same as her debut album, released in the beginning of March in UK and the 27th in France. The single was # 16 in Israel and once again entered top 10 in UK.

Then the single Ti Amo, a slow track, was released. It reached # 8 in Israel, # 11 in UK. It was followed by Gimme Some Love and Everytime I Fall, which had a more modest success.

Gina likes horse-riding and has even done competitions. The first record she has ever bought was the Bee Gees Greatest Hits and she still likes them. She also loves listening to Sting, Brand New Heavies, Massive Attack and the Beloved. She has several recipes to stay in shape : she loves veggie curry with popadoms and mango chutney. Carting my luggage around through the airports also helps. She also goes to the gym in the hotel, works out every other day for an hour. About her ideal man, she says : "He would have to have short hair, and nice eyes - it doesn't matter what color, but they would have to be eyes I could trust ! And he must make me laugh, he also has to be understanding, andvery busy like me... and patient !".

September 1999 : Gina G  and the song's writer Simon Tauber have earnt nothing from their hit Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit due to the outcome of a High Court ruling. The deputy High Court judge ruled that Taube was entitled to 350,000 pounds in royalties after the song was number one in the UK for one week. But FX Music, the production firm holding the royalties, went into voluntary liquidation before Taube and Gina took seperate legal actions for their share of the proceeds. Although the writer was awarded a share in the royalties by record company Warner, this will be swallowed by legal bills.  The song was Eurovisions biggest money - spinner to date, despite only coming eighth in the contest in 1996. Gina pursued her own battle, she won, but by the time the fee's were paid out, the record company went bankrupt, so after all the fighting, she was never compensated after all !

October 1999 : Gina is now living in America, and has signed to another record label, probably Warner USA, and has a single set for release in America soon. Gina has new image, she has cut all her lovely locks off, and is now sporting.

October 2000 : Gina performed at G-A-Y on the 21st at 1:30 AM, with a seven song performance. This was not the first time Gina has graced the G-A-Y stage, her last appearance was way back in 1997. The previous day, she performed at Blackpool’s Pink Flamingo. In December she said she was about to release a new album... But nothing came.

2001 : in February Burger King's KFC chose Gina's old hit Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit to play over there new advert.

2003 : in March Gina was part of a British TV show called Reborn in the USA. This broadcast focused on a group of faded popstars touring around the US. Each week viewers got to vote who was their favourite. Gina's new album was apparently almost ready. She'd been recording lots of stuff over the last few years, but most had been scrapped.

2004 : Gina was nominated among the top 500 sexiest woman of the past 10 years in the decade special of FHM. Her brand new single Heaven was released in June.

2005 : Saturday 5th March Gina G entered a song for "Making Your Mind Up", the preliminary event that decides what the UK's entry to the Eurovision song contest will be. The song was entitled Flashback, a very happy tune, and was apparently co-penned by Gina, but unfortunately it proved the least popular of the five entries. In June, she finally released her new album Get Up And Dance.

2011 : Gina G was back with a new single entitled Next 2 U was digitally released in May. She shot a videoclip in Melbourne.
