Yummie biography

Swedish bubblegum group Yummie started in 1997 in Haninge (near Stockholm, Sweden) with 4 four members : Mr. Young (real name : Thomas Walther), Zed (Songwriter, singer and producer Teddy Gustafsson, known for contributing to band Spot the difference in 1982), Maestro X (songwriter, keyboardist and producer Göran Florén who used to be a member of band Avalon in 1989) and Miss Qute (female singer Petra Garnås). Before being called Yummie, they were known as Bubblegum. Members explained the choice of their stage names : "our real names are so boring and way too hard for people around the globe to pronounce, so we sat down and thought that we should have some alias. We became thinking of the last letters in the alphabet (X,Y,Z and for no reason the letter Q) Q went to be Qute (Cute), Z became Zed and X became Maestro X, Y became Mr Young". They did not expect that much success : "this "project intended to be a fun thing for us in the first place, we never have the intention to be a world wide big band"

Some of the members had already worked together, since Petra Garnås, Göran Florén, and Thomas Walther were members of project Unit C in 1995. Following a performance at a local television station, they met Teddy Gustavsson.

First single Bubblegum was released in 1999 under label Stockhouse. A video was shot for the single. Next year came Poppa Joe (a cover of The Sweet in euro-reggae style) and their only studio album Sweet & Sour which was released in several countries, including Japan, Estonia, Norway, Finland, Poland (with a different sleeve) and the group's native Sweden.

Later, Yummie became a trio when Thomas Walther left the group. Third (and last so far) single was Get out of my face and seems to have been released only as promo. Song was written some years before their album release, it was among the members' favourite Yummie songs. Chorus was updated for the release and sound was rougher and harder than before. They also welcomed a new producer and a new engineer.

A demo videoclip had also been shot back in 1997 for song Hello, directed by Teddy Gustafsson

Project was working on a second album called Bar B Q, which never came out. The group split in 2001.

2009 : Yummie members announced that they are returning for their 10-year anniversary. They promised to release new and unreleased songs, as well as new mixes of existing songs.
