Video Kids biography
VideoKids was created in 1984 by Dutch producers Peter "Hithouse" Slaghuis and Bianca Bonelli who performed on songs. Their songs were written by Adams and Fleisner and Tony Acardi. Single Woodpeckers From Space and its distinctive Woody Woodpecker sample was a massive hit, reaching #1 in Spain and Norway, and #4 in Germany. 2 different Spanish version were recorded for Spanish and Mexican markets. The same year, they released an album entitled The Invasion of the Spacepeckers under Break Records. Album sold 1.1 million copies worldwide.
In 1985, singles Do The Rap and Satellite as well as second album Satellite were released. When the VideoKids refused to release Woodpeckers From Space, due to the political situation in South Africa during that time, Johannesburg-based Costa Anadiotis decided to release his own version of the song under his band name Café Society. Woodpeckers from Space went #1 hit in South Africa in July 1985, and stayed on the Top 20 for 19 weeks, of which 8 were at the #1 position. The same year, the Videokids received the Dutch export award.
In 1998, single The Witch Doctor was released.
In 1991, Peter Slaghuis died in a car accident.
In 1994, a eurodance version of Woodpeckers From Space came out
2002 : Woodpeckers From Space was remixed by Norwegian dance group Spritney Bears.
Woodpeckers From Space was featured in a Pingu episode, "Pingu Helps with Incubating", although it has been replaced by an extended Pingu theme tune in its newer version.
