Sound Of RELS biography

R.E.L.S. (made of first letters of Redford, Eagle, Lane & Stoneman) was a successful production team based in the city of Turku, Finland. Sound Of R.E.L.S. in turn was the band put together by the producers mentioned above. Ressu Redford (real name Esa Pentti Juhani Mäkelä) had a very successful pop/rock carreer in Finland but he wanted to try something new.

Their music had many flavours in it : hip hop, funk and eurodance with a soulful twist. Still the vocals of Ressu Redford were distinctly R & B. Sound Of R.E.L.S. started with female vocalist Alicia Johnston, then Suzie Aldabbaghin, finally replaced by Amina Hietikko. .

Their first single Love Is The Powa! featured Alicia Johnston.Then came Be With You, featuring both Alicia Johnston and Suzie Aldabbagh and Raising My Family with Suzie Aldabbagh.

The self-titled first album Sound Of R.E.L.S., released late October 1995, went gold in no time and had four Top Ten hits in Finland. All five singles released from the album did also incredibly well on the Dance Charts and four of them (Love Is The Powa!, Raising My Family, Ee-Lie-Loe-Lie and Feel The Groove) have been on many hit compilations around the globe.

The new album Crazy Music was released in Finland November 18th, 1996. Suzie Aldabbagh had left the project after meeting the guy who would become her husband in an airport, and Amina Hietikko took her place. Amina had earlier been a member of the dancebands Pumpa På and Press Twice

The first single All The Best Girls entered the official Top 20 single chart at # 4 (staying on the chart for 6 consecutive weeks) and the Finnish Dance Chart at # 20 (highest position # 11, current position after 10 weeks # 44). All The Best Girls also appeared on the Scandinavian Dance Chart. It was also playlisted on all the most important radios in Finland : Radiomafia (National Broadcasting Company), NRJ Energy and Kiss FM. The second single from the album, title song Crazy Music was released as a follow up single December, 9th 1996. As All The Best Girls also Crazy Music entered the Finnish Dance Chart at # 15 and is currently holding position # 6 after 3 weeks on the chart. All the above mentioned radios (Radiomafia, KISS FM and NRJ Energy) put Crazy Music on powerplay and its video was on high rotation on Finnish TV-channels. In just two years the band did 100 live shows all over Finland.

Veijo (Vekke) Mäki a.k.a Vinni Lane kept working with his own studio company Go Records. He was also a part owner in the record company MTG (Musiikintuottajat Group) where he is production manager with the responsibilty for mixing and follow-up of the discs.

After Sound Of R.E.L.S. stopped, Ressu Redford went back to his solo carreer.

2020 : Ressu Redford took part to 11th season real-TV show Vain elämää. As Ressu Redford feat. Sound Of R.E.L.S. he released a single in Finnish entitled Kaksi Jotka Pelkää, a Jannika B cover.
