Interhit Records biography

In five short years, Interhit Records has established itself as one of America's leading independent dance labels. Interhit is dedicated to providing the best in commercial dance and pop music with a special focus on bringing international dance music to the US. Formed in 1994 by Jeff Johnson and Chris Cox, Interhit's first successes were the US Hi-NRG Top 10 hits Whenever You're Lonely and How Deep Is Your Love both by Jeff Johnson.

Soon Tonight It's Party Time by Outta Control took the label to another level hitting the Billboard Top 50 Dance Chart and enjoying radio play on over 100 US radio stations. Interhit then launched the DMA Dance compilation series in the fall of 1995. The impressive back-to-back successes of Interhit's first full-length releases - DMA Dance Vol. 1: Eurodance and DMA Dance Vol. 2: Eurodance took the label to new heights. DMA Dance Vol. 1: Eurodance has sold over 110,000 units since its release in October 1995. DMA Dance Vol. 2: Eurodance which hit the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart - has sold over 90,000 units since its release in July 1996. Late 1996 saw the release of the self-titled debut album from Canada's Outta Control, their Billboard Dance Chart hit Sinful Wishes and the festive compilation NRG Unlimited 1.

Early 1997 brought the release of the third volume of DMA Dance and it's single Take Me Away by international hitmakers Culture Beat. Carry On by dance legends Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder proved to be a big hit on both the Billboard Club Play and Maxi-Single Sales Charts. Carry On went on to win the first-ever 'Best Dance Recording' Grammy Award in February of 1998 - a true milestone for Interhit and an impressive achievement for any independent label. That summer Interhit released the critically-acclaimed debut album from Swedish superstars Sonic Dream Collective. In the Fall of 1997, following the launch of Interhit's new distribution deal with Priority/EMI, the label released a pair of Top 20 Billboard Club Play Chart hits by well-known European dance acts - Be My Baby by Cappella and Voo-doo Believe ? by Datura. The fourth and final volume of DMA Dance hit the streets that Fall along with compilation catering to the public's new found love of dance versions of popular hits - Mega Hits Dance Party Vol. 1.

As 1998 began and Titanic fever spread across the US, Interhit's timely release of Deja Vu's dance version of the Love Theme From Titanic - My Heart Will Go On led to the label's biggest sales success of all time. When the dust had settled, Deja Vu's single had hit #37 on Billboard's Hot 100 Sales Chart, #3 on Billboard's Maxi-Single Sales Chart, #58 on Billboard's Hot 100 and had sold a staggering 200,000 units. The hits kept coming with Natalie Browne's Torn, Thunderpuss 2000's Godzilla and Rapport's To Love You More which all spent multiple weeks on the Billboard Hot Dance Maxi-Single Sales Chart. In fact, during several weeks in 1998, Interhit lay claim to a 10% share of the Billboard Maxi-Single Sales Top 40. Mega Hits Dance Party Vol. 2 - featuring the Deja Vu and Natalie Browne singles - proved to be the label's best-selling compilation in a year of fierce competition in the dance compilation market. In the Summer of 1998, Interhit teamed with BOP Magazine - America's #1 teen magazine - to produce BOP Boys! - a collection of the best of the red-hot 'boy band' sound. The BOP Boys! companion video marked Interhit's first foray into the world of commercial video. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the year came with the Fall release of The Dance Album by the legendary 'King of Romance' Engelbert Humperdinck ! Featuring six newly-recorded dance versions of Engelbert's greatest hits, plus five new songs, The Dance Album is already off to a great start with an impressive amount of national TV coverage and a debut single Release Me / Gotta Get Release that is shaping up to be Interhit's biggest Billboard club hit yet. The Dance Album is being released across Europe in late 1998 and early 1999 via Arcade Music.

With 1999 on the horizon, look for more hot new releases from Interhit, including Mega Hits Dance Party Vol. 3 featuring Cynthiana's new smash single Thank U, along with new music from Abigail, Thunderpuss 2000, D&G Kore and more.
