1981 saw the founding of the Coconut label in Hennef (Germany) by the producing and songwriting team Tony Hendrik / Karin Hartmann (aka Junior Torello) who are still in successful collaboration today. Back then Tony Hendrik, in particular, was already a well-known personality in the business noted for his flexible, resourceful creativity.

Indeed, he had already made it as far as Hamburg's Starclub with his school band Luniks. And with the Tony Hendrik Five, he formed one of the top German beat bands with numerous international single and LP releases. The single The Grooviest Girl in Town even achieved the honour of being one of the most played singles on Radio Luxembourg's international programme ! Tony Hendrik embarked upon his production career at the Deutsche Vogue record company. When no singer could be found for his first German-language song Julia, he stepped in without further ado and catapulted himself into the ZDF hit parade. A song which was later to rise to success again with the Flippers ! Tony Hendrik's meeting with Karin Hartmann led to one of the most successful German production teams.

Together they launched numerous national and international careers. And established artists also made impressive come-backs under the direction of Tony Hendrik and Karin Hartmann.

After two decades of successful cooperation, the dream duo decided to split up and go their separate ways. Karin Hartmann stayed with the company. In early 2007 they sold Coconut to a group of private investors who reorganised and renamed the company Coconut Music
