Ever thought about just how many songs have been written about communications ? In the 90s, the internet was starting, and cell phones hardly began to spread (happy times...). So my 10 favourite songs about communications mostly talk about telephone. To keep in touch with your loved one, of course, but also to call some very particular kind of service...
Why not chosing one of them as a ringtone ?

The Free

Lover On the Line  LISTEN

This superb eurodance masterpiece, wearing the signature of Felix J Gauder, was already featuring on my 50 favourite German eurodance songs. This was The Free's third single. It came along with a nice videoclip directed by Media Mutant featuring Iris playing the role of a futuristic phone operator. Communications theme seens to have been quite inspiring to The Free, since their follow-up single was entitled Loveletter from Space.

E-Rotic

Sex On The Phone  LISTEN

This was E-rotic's third single, as scorching hot and punchy as the previous ones, and still a success (#2 in Austria, #6 in Germany...). A remixes CD and their first album Sex Affairs shortly followed. This awesome eurodance song has now become a classic. "Baby lead on number one
And we'll have a lot of fun...". In 2009, Lyane Leigh re-recorded it and released it under her current project S.E.X. Appeal.

Bizarr

Jane Is Calling  LISTEN

Another amazing eurodance track, with an irresistible melody, composed by musical wizard Axel Breitung. Sung by Christiane Eiben, tongue-in-cheek lyrics tell about Jane in trouble, left alone in the jungle by Tarzan who seems to care much more about his cinema carreer. The song ends without telling us exactly what will finally happened to the ill-fated heroine. A very hard to find single nowadays...

MC Sar & the Real McCoy

Automatic Lover  LISTEN

Another song about love on the line, and nowadays a huge classic. Released under their complete name MC Sar and the Real McCoy, it featured hypnotic raps by O'jay and vocals by Karin Kasar (Patsy was only lipsyncing). Success was more moderate than his predecessor Another Night, but it charted all over the world, eventuall ending #3 in US dance charts. 2 videoclips (one for Europe, the other for American market) were shot.

Taleesa

Internet Love  LISTEN

This lovely song by Italian diva Taleesa could maybe have only been released on compilation, therefore it is nowadays almost impossible to find. It starts with the typical dial-up modem sound that probably won't raise any memory to most of you, who never knew anything else than DSL. Internet Love was released in 1997. At that time, online dating services were still in their infancy, and people met each other via chat and emails. So... "Do you believe in internet love ?"

Mary Jay

Hey, Call Me Now  LISTEN

Recorded and mixed at Alby Studio in Modena (Italy), Hey, Call Me Now featured stunning vocals by an uncredited vocalist who really sounds like the one who contributed to Martine project. It's a lovely song with emotive lyrics and a very nice melody.

BASP

Tokia

Fax Me  LISTEN

For a change, let's talk about faxes... This song was maybe only released as a B-side of Big In Japan, and on compilations. Fax me is an irresistible fast-paced eurodance single with a touch of happy hardcore, which featured an uncredited rapper and a female vocalist called Nadia S. Pure energy !

Jampack

Love.Com  LISTEN

In 1998, internet was beginning to spread seriously... Jampack was a project of Johnny Jam & Delgado. Love.com, a nice, bouncy eurodance track with a strong touch of europop/bubble-gum, was their first single after a pause of one year, and it was quite succesful.

Released under Italian label 21st Century Records (a synonym of high-quality eurodance tracks), What's Your Name What's Your Number was produced by Factory Team and featured a solo (uncredited) vocalist. This excellent eurodance song was a cover of a song originally released in 1978 by Andrea True Connection.
