Liza da Costa - The interview

Liza Da Costa

by Tavi Meran

Liza my first question is about your first project Security, what can you tell about that project ?

It was a dancemusic, it was a trio with the Harris sisters and me.
We did not like each other very much. We had lots of problems with our attitudes. Terrible.

You released only 2 tracks with that project ?

2 tracks very more enough.

Do you still keep the contact with Jackie & Tina ?

Nope

Did you give voice to other eurodance projects we don’t know ?

I sang for Future Breeze (Ocean of eternity), i don't remember much more, I think it's over a decade ago now.

How did you met the producers from Captain Jack ?

I sang in their studio and the asked me to do some songwriting and vocals for a track they were doing, so I did.

Who came with the idea to name the project Captain Jack ?

The song provided us with the bandname, really!!.
Captain was to be a project, but it became successful. Nobody really expected that.

You released with Captain Jack a big hit : Captain Jack… did you think that track had a potential to be a hit ?

No, not really. It was fun to do it, but at time i was more into jazz and i thought this kind of music is really not my kind of music..

One of my favorite tracks is Back Home, who wrote that track ?

The composer is Markus Ball, who also did the backing vocals and doubled Frankie's voice also.

Liza, what kind of person was Franky ? Do you have any funny stories from Captain Jack concerts, to share with us?

Franky was the funniest man and most enerving man I know.
In terms of party you could always relay on him finding something funny to do. Right now I don't remember so many stories. I just know that I never ever laughed so much, since I was on tour with Franky.

What did you think of the idea of illustrating every early Captain Jack release with a sexy manga girl instead of your pic of Franky and you ?

At that time we as artists weren't involved into the marketing process. Most the ideas came for our producers and record company. Dancemusic was a business and had nothing to do with art.

Among all the vocalists who came after you as Captain Jack front lady, which one do you think was the best, and why ? Did you know personally one of them ?

I think Maloy was really a good singer. I didn't keep track of all the other singers.

Your favorite drink is Banana coco ? Who wrote that track ?

Me and Richard Witte wrote Banana Coco. The drink was created after the song was out.

In 2002 you came on dance scene with Future Breeze …how was working with them !?

I just worked with them for one track and that was it.

Your new project is called Hotel Bossa Nova, why this name ? Tell me a few things about this project !?

We play Brazilian Jazz. We are together for 5 years now and touring. We have released 2 albums so far. We are working on our 3rd and It will be released in may 2011.

Did you think to release and a material in English with this project ?

No.

Did you do compromises in your career ?

Yes… I did for Captain Jack., I let all my bandprojects pause to be on tour with Captain Jack.

If the producers from Captain Jack would ask you to make some new tracks .. you'd do it ? Or the Captain Jack chapter is closed !?

It is closed definitely.
I would never accept any other Captain Jack but Franky.

Did you think to make and dance tracks with Jazz influence like she did the Brazilian singer Vanessa da Mata ?

No not really, I like playing with real instruments.

What does Liza da Costa hate the most ?

Insincerity.

Do you have any regrets ?

No. everything was right the way it was.

A message for our readers and for your fans ?

Be happy without a cause :-).
