The producers were N-Dee (Andy Lutschounig) and Frank Lio (Achim Kleist). Nancy and Tanya had been knowing each other since 1986, when they attended the same dance studio. They toured as dancers with Haddaway in 1993. The project'name came from a play on word. 3 was chosen because they were a trio. The other part of the name came from Variomatic, the automatic transmission in Tanya's car (originally created by Dutch car manufacturer DAF, and which was used in over 40 car brands and models).
