Charles Simmons biographyCharles comes from Kansas City. Of classic formation, he taught himslef piano, drums, guitar, bass and various percussion instruments at an early age. He became The Free's rapper and male singer, he was also co-writer for the project's lyrics. He also took part to the eurodance project Now along with Melissa Goodlitt. After The Free stopped, he took part in 1997 to the project U-Nit for the single You, in collaboration with Nico Herz and Zeljiko Lapierre. Charles also recorded many TV commerical jingles, for instance for Langnese "Magic of Home" campaign for ice creams brands. He also performed with many top artists and producers, including Mary J. Blige, Shaggy, Stefan Raab, Xavier Naidoo, Sasha, Bryan McKnight, the Weather Girls, Crystal Waters, Sonique and the Backstreet Boys. In 2002, Charles started working with the artists Sabrina Setlur, Glashaus and Moses Pelham (label 3P, same label as Linda Carriere). Charles Simmons nowadays does a lot of songwriting and some producing for R&B, Hip-Hop and Pop projects. He also does lots of live gigs in Germany. He has a daughter called Tamica and a son called Tamik. 2006 : Charles founded the alternative rock band iO, together with ex-Guano Apes members Dennis Poschwatta, Henning Rümenapp and Stefan Ude. Their debut CD, For The Masses, was released worldwide on August 1st, 2008. 2008 : Charles became an instructor at two music schools: the Performing Arts Academy of Baden-Würrtemberg (aka Popakademie) in Mannheim, and the Modern Music Center in Stuttgart 2010 : he was hired as a vocal coach on the German version of the casting show "X-Factor". He also became one of the members of band Max&Friends. 2011 : Charles is back with a new solo album planned for release on June 17th. First single Never Gonna Give You Up (cover version of Rick Astley's hit) has just been released. Charles was also featured on the latest club hit from Niels van Gogh + Daniel Strauss, titled Emergency. He took part as a candidate on German real-TV show "The Voice of Germany" on Pro7 and Sat1.
