Kayo Shekoni biographyKayode Maria Shekoni Söderberg was born in Järfälla (Stockholm, Sweden) to a Swedish mother (Ulla) and Nigerian father (Larry). She was destined for success, as her name literally means 'future happiness' and 'work to get'. She had the fortune of being raised in a musical family, with a jazz musician for a father and an inspirational music fan for a mother. She was encouraged to pursue an artistic lifestyle Kayo founded her first dance troup called Brownsugar in 1979. Later in 1980 she joined a bigger group, Chicken Chak consisting of Vito & Emilio Ingrosso, Blossom Tainton and Dag Taylor (all very well known artists in Sweden). Later that year her and Gigi Hamilton were asked to join a popgroup named Freestyle (they were VERY successful here during the 80's btw). Their first single Vill Ha Dig ("I Want You") sold gold. She spent most of her free time at discos showing off the latest dancesteps she learnt. Kayo's years from ages 6 to 16 were spent as a professional ballet dancer, travelling through Europe with various dance troupes and Swedish celebrities. In 1981 she got her first "catwalk"-job posing for Lois Jeans, she also attended a DJ-course. In 1982 she founded yet another dancegroup named "Take Five". 1983 they changed name to "Sweethearts" and toured around the country. She also attended a ballet academy to get a dance diploma but that didn't stop her from visiting discos at night In 1984 she went to Ibiza and worked as a DJ at "Chak Molle" and when she returned later that same autumn she got her first choirjob with Bob Manning (I have no idea who he is thought). Take Five also recorded a single that year but under yet another name, this time they called themselves "Supereffect". 1985-1986 her good friend and founder of BossaNova, Pier Bertolotto recruited her to his supergroup "Touch" and they toured all over the country and even in Italy. In 1989 she decided to sing full-time which prompted her to join a group of talented DJs who started a record company called Swemix. By 1990, Kayo had two pop hits on Swedish radio and a successful debut album called Kayo, a Stonebridge production blending rap, hip hop, and soul. A second album with a pop edge was released in 1993, in the swedish language. Kayo's success as a recording artist was amplified when she was chosen for a leading role in a Swedish action comedy, and then in 1994 as the TV Hostess for Sweden's popular game show 'Fort Boyard'. The same year, her single Om Du Vill Ha Mig Som Jag är was also chosen for the Soundtrack of the movie Pillertrillaren. She also recorded a song for the Swedish soundtrack of Disney's Lion King. It was a duet with Frank Ådahl entitled Känn En Doft Av Kärleken.
