Paul Oscar biography

Paul Oscar (born Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson in 1970) is a self tought singer and has been working as one since childhood. He’s one of the most flamboyant and respected Icelandic popstar of the last decade. First and foremost known as a singer, he is also the most popular DJ in Iceland.

Paul is the youngest ot 7 children. His siblings are Ásdís, Sigrún (aka Diddú) who is an opera singer, Lucinda Margrét, Matthías Bogi, Johanna Steinunn and Arnar Gunnar. His dad was a bank clerk and his mum a writer

Paul Oscar is an outspoken gay activist. He appears frequently on TV and radio, has enjoyed a working relationship with the latin group The Millionaires, the easy listening group Casino and competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 with the song Minn Hinsti Dans (but he did not reach higher than #20), and has won awards as best male singer.

He released his first solo album Stuð in 1993. The followed Palli in 1995 and Seif in 1996. Then he turned to English with the album Deep Inside (´99) If I won’t sleep tonight (2001) and The lights at home (2003) in collaboration with harpist Monika Abendroth. He is currently working on his next solo album, the dance project All In The Name Of Love (or Allt fyrir ástina).

Paul Oscar released his Silver Collection (Silfursafniđ), a Greatest hits album to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of his first record.

2002 : he appeared as Dr. Love in the teenage movie Gemsar (Made in Iceland)

2005 : Paul Oscar was a jury member in real-TV show Idol stjörnuleit season 3

2006 : he was a judge in Iceland version of The X Factor.
