Aliases - Records released under other names
Obsession biographyProduction : Hams, Hevans (also producers for Jackie O). Obsession is a project of Almighty Records (also responsible for euro projects such as Rochelle, 4-2 the Floor). Obsession's first single was the double track I'm Alive / Life Insurance. Then came the singles Neverending Story in 1990 (a cover of a Limalh track) and Can You Feel It in 1993. The follow-up The Crying Game included a B-side called Forbidden Fruit. Miriam Stockley (the voice of Adiemus, and also backing vocalist for Clock's hit Everybody) gave her voice to this single. If I Can't Have You included a Saturday Mix, an Original Mix, a Disco Mix, and a Pop Mix. It featured once again Miriam Stockley and was followed by a remixes CD. Then came Without You was released with 2 bonus tracks : State Of The Nation and Cloudburst. Released in 1994 too, the single Only Wanna Be With You was composed and written by Mitchell, Norris and Radford. The single contained not less than 6 different mixes : a 7" Mix, a Euro Mix, a NU-NRG Mix, a Mr Smiles Club Mix, a Mr Smiles Dub, and a Mystical Mix. Anytime featured the voice of Diana Dee. It included 4 different mixes : a 7" Radio Mix, a Definitive Mix, a Trinity Mix, and a Euro Mix. The follow-up Being With You had a great Euro sound with a catchy tune and fantastic vocal performance from the Obsession girls. Having been released to certain territories earlier the same year (to test the response and determine the interest), they added two new Definitive mixes for its international release in November. Being With You (a cover of the Smokey Robinson) was produced by Jon Dixon & Martyn Norris. Can You Feel It (a cover of The Jacksons) was produced by Martyn Norris & Richard Cottle. Shine was also original song. An excellent song that moved on from the all-too-dates Euro sound of the last few years and gained the kind of respect from DJs and dance music aficionados. It came in 3 versions : a 7" Mix, a Definitive Mix and a Millennium Mix. Then, after a little pause, came the cover of Bryan Adams' track On A Day Like Today, plus an extra track, the classic song Love Pains (previously Yvonne Elliman, Hazell Dean and Liza Minnelli have enjoyed hits with the very same song). From this time, Obsession kept on releasing cover songs. In 2000, Kiss Me was released. Originally a Sixpence None The Richer track, the single inculded a Radio Mix, a Definitive Mix, a Dub version and a Lost Words version. The follow-ups Suspicious Minds and Always On My Mind were 2 of Elvis' biggest hits remade here by Obsession. From the pop/trance style of Suspicious Minds to the uplifting Euro-tastic Always On My Mind, this release was sure to be big with all kinds of dance music enthusiasts. It was released under the name Obsession Goes To Vegas. Then Obsession did a remake of the classic Bananarama tune Venus and gave it a new clubby slant with 3 mixes in total, enough to satisfy most commercial dance tastes. It included a B-side called The Way You Make Me Feel. Sacrifice was the first single from Obsession album We Love Elton. It came with the bonus tracks Your Song and I'm Ready To Believe. In 2003 they released a new version of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Elton John's classic. Obsession's pumped-up dance version was an uplifting and clever interpretation of this song. DJs have absolutely raved about the Definitive Mix. Also included, there was the unreleased Definitive Mix of The Rumour (a song written in the mid 80s by Elton for Olivia Newton John). Recently, a 3 CDs album called Only Wanna Be With You – The Definitive Collection was released under Almighty records. The first CD featured new remixes produced exclusively for this compilation. The second CD contained a retrospective 20 tracks party megamix, and the CD 3 full unedited versions and all brand new remixes. 2004 : Obsession's Love Insurance was Almighty's second release back in 1991 but strangely, this track was never been released as a CD single! It has though, always remained a favourite for many. So, as a special treat, the classic Front Page Mix had been beefed up and studio enhanced (with fabulous effects), by the current Almighty studio team. It included remixes from Hi-NRG legends Ian Anthony Stephens and the late Rod Warren. Obsession is currently fronted by three women who each take turns doing solo recordings for various different singles. For the more Disco oriented remakes, Almighty tends to go towards having famous studio background singer Tracey Ackerman take the lead. For more powerful club oriented remakes Jackie "Tasmin" Rawe is the woman with her power voice. For calmer and not so powerful or Disco oriented voices, Almighty often calls upon Amanda Abs, the lady who helped launch both Almighty Records and Obsession in 1989. While Obsession is sung by three vocalists, each vocalist sings one at a time, so far they haven't recorded together under one single. 2006 : Obsession released In Private, a cover of a Dusty Springfield/Pet Shop Boys song from the 80's. Jill Saywood (Jackie 'O') came together with Obsession to sing lead vocal on this re-make. While she was not credited, it was later revealed by Almighty that she was the one who sung the lead on this song, with the members of Obsession singing back-up. She had alsor contributed to the promo If I Could Turn Back Time in 2003. The same year, many singles followed, most of them only released as mp3 : Tragedy (a cover of the Bee Gees), Upside Down (originally by Diana Ross), Your Song, Rocket Man (2 Elton John covers), The Rumour (originally sung by Elton John & Olivia Newton-John, including a remix by Dancing Divaz), Somebody To Love (a song by Jefferson Airplane). There was also a re-release of Never Ending Story. 2007 : If I Can't Have You was re-released, with many brand new remixes.
