Indiana biography

The production team for Indiana was called Sonora. Behind Sonora stand Vito "Mastroianna" Ulivi, Ciro Pisano, Alex Bertagnini and Jimmy D. The single was composed by Ciro Pisano, Vito Ulivi and Nicoletta Merletti in a small home studio. They used a Roland expander and et an Oberheim expander for the violins, a Roland TR-909 for the rhythms and a Akai S900 sampler, even if they did not use any vocals samples. They gathered the whole with Emagic Notator software running under an Atari 1040ST computer. Then they mixed it under a Soundcraft mix table.

All I Need Is Love was submitted to A&R departments of every dance label of the via Mecenate in Milan (Discomagic, Venus Distribuzione), without success : it lacked the trendy sound effects. They finally dropped the demo DAT at Dancework office, and their members Fabrizio Gatto and Claudio Ridolfi listened to it and decided to give the track a chance.

All I Need Is Love was released under Volumex records (a division of Dancework). The CD included a Sing mix, a Eurodance mix, a Versilia mix, a Cat mix (made by Fabrizio Gatto but credited to El Zigeuner, who also did remixes for Nikita) and a Love guitar mix (an homage to Jam & Spoon). the studio vocalist was Danila Gimmi but a pretty 21-years old lady called Mariarita Arcuci fronted the project. It was a huge success in Italy and stayed #1 during 2 months, selling 30000 copies. It also did well in Spain and in the UK.

A remixes CD was recorded the same year, it included 5 different versions, done by Spherika (Maurizio Parafioriti and Paolo Galeazzi), Fabio Cozzi, Mauro Pilato & Max Monti and Two Cowboys. But in 1995, there were some author right disagreement with another Indiana project : singer Giulia Del Buono from Roma detained the rights on the name. The release of a Dig It International compilation was blocked because of this, and the label London Records gave up the record's promotion.

In order to avoid a trial, an agreement was established between Dancework and Flying Records. All I Need Is Love remixes had to be released under the name of Indiana Day and Diana's (same records company). A second single followed, You're My Angel, released under project name Diana's. But the second single was not very successful. Meanwhile, the Indiana project from Flying records released some new songs : Tears On My Face (I Can See The Rain) and Together Again.

No relationship with the UK project Indiana, which released 2 singles under the label Platipus : Do You Hear Me and In My Veins in 2002. Nor with another Italian dance project of the same name which released in 1992 a vinyl 12" entitled Indiana on Strength Records, sub-label of Pro.Pio Records, run by DJ Stefano Secchi.
