Chyp-Notic biography
This German eurodance band was founded in 1988 in Cologne as Toys. Members were singer Vlad Mint (Vlad Mynt Swe, born 15th February 1969), drummer and guitarist Jan Erik (Jenda Beck, born 18th May 1958), and keyboardist Walter Bee (Walter Busseler, born 9th April 1967). They changed their band name to Chyp-notic in 1990 and got under contract on Coconut Records. Vlad Mint ended his training as a dental technician, Walter Bee gave up his job as a computer programmer and Jan Erik sold his shares at a nightclub
Their biggest success was their first single, a dance cover of Sinéad O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U. It entered the charts directly at #16 and stayed 13 weeks. According to rumors, not all vocals were done by Vlad. Some vocal parts were done by Coconut records studio singer Uwe Haselsteiner, but also by David Brandes and Lian Li.
Next single was If I Can't Have U. Then in 1991 came I Can't Get Enough (#14). 1992 saw the release of Still In Love With You (#57) and I Do It All For You Baby (# 93), along with their second album I Can't Get Enough.
In 1993, they released When I Dream which went #72. They were awarded RSH Gold for "most successful group produced in Germany". Jan Erik moved to Czech republic.
The band split up in 1994, after (or before ?) single Don't Break The Heart featuring Greg Ellis instead of Vlad. It was composed by Don Chereyne aka T. Hendrik, and written by Tom Jamski. One of the mixes was done by ATB. Walter Bee got his sysadmin diploma and founded his own company, Side By Side Porduction, including a recording studio.
Vlad Mint died 27th September 1998. Don't Break The Heart was covered by the Bad Boys Blue on their album Back
2004 : Jan Erik released an album entitled V zátoce lásky under his real name Jenda Beck.
2015 : 25, an album gathering new mixes of their hits was released
