Melanie Bender biographyMelanie Bender was born December 7th 1974 in Mainz. As she was only 5, her singing talent was discovered by her father, the singer and composer Karl-Heinz "Steve" Bender, famous among others for his contribution to Dschinghis Khan. Melanie learned how to play the drums and the keyboards, and also did dental studies. After a first single called Der Sommer ist vorbei, she first gained chart attention in her native Germany as a member of the dance-pop group Me-Ka-Do (with Kati Karney and Dorkas Kiefer). Together, they represented Germany at the Eurovision contest in 1994 and reached #3. Melanie soon moved off on her own though, and found another hit with a precocious single named You Just Want Sex, produced by her dad. Her eponymous debut album followed soon after, and was released in the US on Critique in mid-1996.
