My 10 favourite eurodance songs about space
Sci-fi, stars and extra-terrestrial worlds have always been a great source of inspiration for eurodance composers and songwriters. Whether it’s a metaphor for love, death or fear. Fasten your seatbelt and make the engine of your spaceship roar, here are my favourite space related songs !
#1
Let's start with a song about alien intelligent life. In popular believes, Martians are often green. But, since Mars is red, what shouldn't their inhabitants have the same colour ? Written, produced and arranged by Pit Bailey (Peter Ballweg)Red Martian features vocalist Tina Safrany and rapper Mark Harris aka The Infinite One, whose contribution to eurodance history needs no introduction.
#2
This was Antares first single and it had a lot of success in France where it went #25. On stage, Asher Senator teamed with a blond model, but real vocals probably belonged to Clara Moroni. Rap verses included words borrowed to an English nursery rhyme ("this old man").
#3
Aladino was a collective project involving producers Diego Abaribi, Silvio Perrone, Giordano Trivellato, Giuliano Sacchetto, Mauro Marcolin and Valerio Gaffurini. Featuring gorgeous vocals by Italian eurodance diva Taleesa Brothers In The Space, it's a powerful eurodance track, perfect for a loop around the moon or more. Was it insipired by the Langevin twin paradox ?
#4
The Free's 4th single juxtaposes the wide nature of the universe and the personal nature of love. This beautiful and melancholic song was The Free's first single to feature Charles Simmons as solo vocalist. A remixes CD followed. Videoclip showed Charles receiving a mysterious shiny crystal coming from outer space, with images of a mute Ayla J popping out. His quest leads him to the library of a research center, then back to his car, transformed into a space shuttle thanks to the crystal's power.

Space is our next frontier... Claudio Zennaro aka Einstein Doctor Deejay's second album The Shadow And The Planet was filled with references to space and planets. Third single to be taken from this album, Cosmic Radio Station featured the usual English chorus and German spoken words. We don't know for sure to whom they belong, maybe Federica Micheli and Elisabetta, since they were credited on the maxi ?

On the sleeve, one can recognize Tintin's famous space shuttle. Following Cosmic Muhammar, Starship Race was a nice combination of arabic samples with melodic italo-type synths, a mind-blowing jaunt through hyperspace. On the sleeve, 2 vocalists were credited : Loona Moon and Annie Way. Single included 2 bonus tracks : Adrenaline and Joannie & I Plant Flowers on the Moon. Their message was "Spacism, not racism"...

Including vocal samples from the German sci-fi TV show Raumpatrouille Orion and a chorus by La Jana (probably Catyana Schilling), this fast-paced eurodance track was produced by Julian Feifel, Patrick Magnet and famous German synthpop musician Peter Schilling (a science-fiction themes lover). It was included on first edition of Japanese dance compilation CD Dancemania. A perfect song for a space shuttle race.
#8
Created in November 1994 by Alessandro Jacobone and Marco Marsili, Exit Way specialized into songs about space, stars and planets. With it's robot voice intro, this fast-paced eurodance gem might be the best song to set up an atmosphere evoking the moments preceding a shuttle launch. Clara Moroni contributed to write the melody of 2 of the 4 mixes featured on the maxi. Maybe she also did vocals too...
#9
Space was the second single to be released from their second album of the same name, introducing their new vocalist Anna-Katarina Schatzl who replaced Barbara Hašcáková. It is an uplifting and melodic song, with everything that mades a great eurodance track.
#10
A superb eurodance song from a mysterious French project, featuring a solo female vocalist, written by M. Torrès and N. Rood, produced by P. Derre, released under label Arcade. After searching for perfect love in the whole cosmos, singer finally choses to come back to our planet... A sort of conclusion to our extra-terrestrial trip.
#11
Magic Illusion BONUS TRACK
Featuring an uncredited solo female vocalist whose dreamy and smooth voice perfectly fits the song's purpose, Love Me In The Space was produced by Fabio Bassoli, Manuel Mazzassa and Massimo Gavioli, written by Alex Baraldi and Einstein Dr Deejay, a reference when it's abour space songs... We are taken over by an atmosphere of elevation, like we’re leaving Earth in a rocket and diving into space. Just close your eyes and float into the cosmos... A very hard to find single nowadays.
